Eastering Egglets

A certain lemuure has been out spotting the Easter eggies.

So far there only seem to be little ones on display but at Birmingham station there was a whole display of them, bags n bags n bags of small ones. When I went to the cash desk to pay for my magazines there were so many eggs that there wasn't room to put my magazines down.

I have to admit that I was surprized as I didn't expect to see them at least until tomorrow.

I thought we'd celebrate New Year's Eve first before we got into the Easter eggies but we are so lucky this year we can do both together.

The Works

Went into Brum again today and bought a couple of Christmas pressies. Don't really do Christmas but sometimes I make an exception. Bought them from one of The Works there. Got a Solar Energy kit, a Global Warming box of something or other, something from the Oxford University Press about music in a little carton like you get pick up sticks in, and a paint your own jewellry kit that has paint that glows in the dark. What more could anyone want!!

And if you do read my blog and haven't realised who is behind it you'll find out Christmas morning that I am indeed a blogging lemuure.

The woman who served me in The Works has been doing conservation work and we had a little chat at the desk. Cool.

Relaxation

Yesterday evening I went into one of these states of deep relaxation again. It's only happened three times that I can remember and all in the last few months. I went to lie down for a while because I was feeling tired meaning to be back up in half an hour or so. After about five minutes I realised that I was feeling very relaxed which is relaxing in itself but I soon realised that the relaxation had gone far further than what I normally experience as relaxation and as I fell deeper and deeper into the state of mind and body that I was in that it was much deeper than what I'd experienced the previous two times.

There was rock music playing reasonably quietly in the background on the computer and going by that I guess feeling like this lasted about an hour and a quarter.

I wish I could induce feeling like this in myself, the three times it's happened it's something I've just drifted into when I've been tired and trying to relax. I tried this morning but it didn't work. I expect you could learn to control things like this through meditation. Well, that's just a guess. I don't know.

Polar bears drown as ice melts

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1938132,00.html

http://news.mongabay.com/2005/1214-polar_bears.html

Polar bears are apparently drowning because ice is melting which results in longer journeys between ice floes and they're not distance swimmers.

If you click on the full story from the page below you'll read about a study that showed that the polar bears habitat was known to be in danger in 1999.

Help our habitats

A report has been published showing where the most endangered species of animals and plants live in the wild.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4522044.stm

The picture illustrating the article is of a sifaka, one of the lemuures from Madagascar. There's more to read in the "Last chance to see" group of pictures.

The report says that it wouldn't cost much to change this situation around. Let's hope that's what happens.

Trots in and goes and rearranges some spelling.

Seasonal changes

Last year and into the beginning of this year I noticed that flowers were blooming way outside of their usual flowering season. This year I've been ill and haven't been out and about as much as I often am and when I have been out I guess I haven't been taking so much notice of the wildlife, both flora and fauna, as I usually do.

Last winter it was the wild plants that really caught my attention. I noticed the garden plants too as I was walking around but I know wild plants better than garden ones. My gardens have always been full of wild plants rather than cultivated ones and I've spent quite a lot of time walking around the countryside. I know the plants lifecycles pretty well.

The garden plants were brightening up their gardens well past their normal seasons as well though. While walking the roads round here I started talking to a woman who had come out to prune one of her climbing plants. I can't remember if it was December or January but it was well past the time when the plant should've been dormant for the winter. She said that she was surprized it was still growing and that it was still in flower because of the time of year. We talked and I said that a lot of plants were doing the same. The countryside was much greener than it should be at this time of year and still in flower.

This year I haven't been so aware. The Independent printed an article that covered the same phenomenen this year, but in the trees.

http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/article332130.ece

I have noticed birds building nests though. Normally they'd be nesting in Spring not at the beginning of winter.

I'd noticed that the seasonal changeover had shifted in time quite sometime ago but last year it became more obvious. This year I can remember going out for a walk in January and meeting some kids out in short sleeved t shirts and to be sure it was warm enough to be out in summer clothes as I was myself and not feel cold. Though I had taken a jacket out with me because I was so surprised by the temperature. I didn't need it.

It's forecast that this winter it's going to be very cold at times. This is because of weather conditions that have been building up elsewhere. There's been a cold snap that's affected some annual plants but it's still very green out there for this time of year

Whoops

A lemuure has to edit again. Map lost yesterday in piles of papers but am assured it was really given to the community on Sunday.

Lemuures on the trail

Last week was an interesting week for lemuures who found themselves protesting on behalf of endangered species everywhere because the Independent produced a map which showed the endangered species on this planet. Sadly because most lemuures are living in a very small part of the world, Madagascar and a couple of small islets in the vincinity to be precise, where their habitat is being eroded by deforestation rather like the rainforest but on a much smaller scale they find themselves on this list.

But still they have John Cleese and The Independent at the weekend (last week) protesting on their behalf. And so more and more people are becoming aware of their plight. Less forest, less trees and therefore less lemuures.

Lemuuries were also to be seen promoting back packing trail holidays to Madagascar in this very same publication.

There was another story connected to lemuuries this week and again it had a connection with ecology and protecting the planet. Though this time it was because someone was not a lemuure. This was obvious because as we all know THERE ARE NO LEMUURES IN BORNEO. At least that doesn't look like Auntie John to me. She did mention going there once and she's on holiday at the moment.

It seems though that there are problems here similar to the problems lemuures are facing in Madagascar. The forest trees are being cut down.

Lemuures and non lemuures and possibly non lemuures need to protest.

Even sleepier lemuures

Post their posts in the wrong blog. How do they do this? Even sleepier lemuures would like to know.

Sleepy lemuures

All I've done today is go up to Sainsbury's. Spent the rest of the day dozing. I'd other plans but I was just too tired to do anything and went to sleep. It's coming up to eight in the evening now and I'm still tired. Though it's not an unpleasant tiredness. The slight headache I had this morning has cleared.

The day begins

On the net and tries to install radio player for metal site. It doesn't install. I'll try again later cause I had quite a lot else going on at the time.

Opens can of coke, goes to get glass. Comes back with a glass full of water.

Goes to eat yogurt. Looks in drawer for spoon. Looks at washing up. Bleurrrggghhh!!

Toolmaggot's picture floats through mind again.

Def Leppard

Still got this flippin' cold. Woke up this morning a bit hard of hearing and with a small spot in the middle of my nose. Thought to myself "Def Leppard" Then thought get a grip Lemuure, leppards have more spots.

So, it's been a day of rest really. Got food. Did the mental garlic shake at the chocoolate in Holland and Barretts. For reference to this read Dracula. And swiftly made my exit avoiding chocoolate everywhere.

Haven't really done much else. Dozed for a bit of the day, been on the computer. Realise that I'm not as ill as I've been, but on the other hand I'm not that well either. And I'm aware that I could easily tip things over if I'm not careful.

Ear's are better again. I think it's just that there's swelling there and even though it's gone down some any bug's going to get in there. Don't feel too bad though. Not in comparison.

By the way:

Have to say I was amazed by the bluegrass def leppard tribute album.

Two steps forward and a third of a step back

I think I have a slight cold. Nothing like the other bugs. ............. and I've been mightily sniffled over today but judging by the person's cough and general condition I think they've probably got the bug I've just had so hopefully I'll be OK.

Everyone's saying the other bug has been bad without the additional problems I had.

This isn't the same. And I'll be more careful this time.

(Goes and gets glass of water)

Before going out (though not walking miles)

...... and miles ....... and miles.
